My Fantasy

I've got it!

I know how the country can yet be saved. It's a bit of a long shot, considering how orthodox everyone needs to make themselves these days. But hear me out.

Okay, let's say that John McClinton and Hillary ClinCain get their respective nominations. Seems like things could go that way. Romney is very wealthy, and still has financial support. So here is what he does.

He declares that he will run either as an independent, or, in a maneuver I will be waiting for until it happens of I die, he forms himself a brand new party. He calls it the Patriot party, the Nationalist party, the Constitutionalist party, something like that. Abraham Lincoln did this and created the Republican Party. Romney runs on that platform, a truly conservative platform as Reagan did, and wins.

Now here comes the objection: Romney will just split the Republican vote and Hillary ClinCain wins. I don't think so. Romney would not have a hard time splitting the DEMOCRAT/MODERATE/whatever vote instead. He needs to portray McCain as a carbon copy of Hillary, or vice versa. The liberal minority of the country would be split over the two, and plenty of "moderates" as well as all the conservatives would have to go to Romney, because he is by far more conservative than the two theoretical candidates above.

Think about what could happen. We could start a new party, forsaking the corrupt, more and more left leaning Republicans, and making a party that is nationalist, meaning it loves America first and foremost. Let the RINOS go and become Democrats as the Republican party dies to give way to the new party. Who cares? Do you conservatives really want McClinton and Ah-nold and the likes in your part? I don't. They water it down. The party would not stand for socialism and big government. The party would stand for the Constitution, Declaration, and Bill of Rights. The party could stand for true conservatism, an idea that never loses a national election. Need I site Reagan again? Barry Goldwater was in the same position decades ago, the original Reagan, and he too was shafted by dirty political maneuvering, just as Romney is now. Maybe Goldwater could have done this. Now I know Romney isn't the best guy to start a truly conservative, nationalist, constitutionalist movement. He is in favor of the freedom-stripping Brady Bill, for example. But that doesn't necessarily matter. The very existence of such a party that could just run with the founding ideals would be preferable to any of the CRAP that we have now.

Besides, the only hope our country has at stalling the seemingly inevitable decline into socialism is Romney. He's not exactly a reformer, I know, but he might buy enough time for the man on the white horse. Either way, in a three way national election, with his funds, he could still win. Even forgetting the new party idea, let him run as an independent. Lieberman did it, then switched back to a Democrat anyway. Romney could pledge to do that. He could still do that, because trust me, I will NOT vote for McCain. All he needs to do is be brutally honest about McClinton and ClinCain. Those two are almost one in the same. He is the different candidate, and he could do it.

Will he? I don't know, I kind of doubt it. I'm not usually this lucky...
